VJIM, Hyderabad hosted a one-day seminar on Business Analytics on 17th March, 2016 on “Business Analytics” with P. Das Gupta. The talk primarily revolved around insights and essentials of Business Analytics and its scopes in different areas like Finance, Marketing and HR.
The session started very interestingly with the speaker taking example of Sachin Tendulkar and analyzing his scores. He emphasized that Analytics is not only for Banking and Automobile sectors. It is used in each and every area to take better decisions. He also emphasized that according to a survey- by 2020 every job will revolve around Data Analytics.
“Analytic is not a new concept, it was being used by our ancestors as well. What is comparatively new is the systematic, constructive framing of the concept,” said Mr. Das Gupta. While speaking about IBM’s contribution to the field, Mr. Das Gupta mentioned that the term Business Intelligence was coined by Hans Peter Luhn, a computer scientist working at IBM.
The riveting session went about exploring various dimensions of Business Analytics. From citing example of aircraft A380 who’s each engine generates 1PB of data on flight from London to Singapore and also regarding SKA (squared kilometer array) to the future of Business Intelligence, the seminar was packed with insights and scoops from the business world. Mr. Das Gupta firmly believes that Cognitive analytics is about to change the future of Analytics and the talk revolved substantially around it. At last he dwelled upon the skill set required to be a data analyst.
