LIGHTS…CAMERA…ACTION!
At 3 P.M in the afternoon of 9th July, 2016, the 23rd batch of PGDM opened the stage for the fresh stars of VJIM- the new PGDM 24th Batch- Class 2018. The theme to the fresher’s party for this year was meant to be a filmy one- Cinema. After all, life is nothing less than a movie in itself.
The auditorium was decorated with popular film posters, flexes and banners with balloons and colorful streamers to add the finishing touch. The party was organized in sync to the theme. Students started entering the auditorium dressed as celebrities and popular characters from various films. A video was screened depicting the Indian film industry with the auditorium ringing with enthusiasm, cheers, applause and energy. After all, who does not like Bollywood and its iconic dialogues!
Following the tradition, winners of various categories of awards were summoned to the stage. The crowd was waiting for the “Hero and Heroine of the Batch” to be declared along with the Best Comedian, Best Villain, Best Smile, and Miss and Mister ethnic and Best Appearance’s awards. The first round of screening for the candidates was based on the most trending Dubsmash videos. Candidates were asked to send their dubsmash videos and the finalists were selected based on their performances. Awards like best comedian and best villain were given based on the students’ performance in the videos sent by them.
A day before the fresher’s event the 24th batch celebrated the “the ethnic day” and the best dressed girl and boy were honored with the titles of Miss and Mister Ethnic eventually. The finalist from the first screening went through two more rounds of evaluation where they were graded based on factors like confidence, style of walking, appearance, social factor, spontaneity and performance. The awards were then given to:

Best Comedian (Female) – Ms. Deepika
Best Villian (Male) – Mr.Kamlesh
Best Dressed (Male) – Mr.Syed Moin
Best Dressed (Female) -Ms. Supraja Naidu
Mr. Ethnic –Mr.Manaswath
Ms. Ethnic –Ms.Suman Sharma
Best Smile (Male) –Mr. Nikhil Akula
Best Smile (Female) – Ms. Susmitha T
Post the award distribution ceremony, dance and music performances had the audience sway to the rhythm and beat. A young rap artist closed the event with an amazing rap performance.
Had it not been for the tireless efforts of the Fresher’s Committee along with the Design Team, Tech Team, Events Team, Food and Logistics’s Team, the event would have been incomplete. The Decor Team deserves a special applause for introducing the cinematic climate to the venue. The day ended at VJIM with the photographers clicking the happy moments of students who made the event an absolute BLOCKBUSTER!
