Summer Internship Programs (SIPs) are a crucial part of a management student’s learning curve because this three months’ industry stint offer students firsthand experience in the corporate world. It’s something VJIM, Hyderabad has always remained focused on to ensure that its students get the best possible opportunities. Khushboo. M. Shroff, student of Batch 2015-17, who is doing her internship with Thomas Cook, (India) Ltd. describes the experience that is preparing her for a corporate career.
Having been recommended for the company by VJIM, Hyderabad Khusboo did not waste a second to make her decision to grab the opportunity. “I knew that it’s a company where anything I learn will be a huge value addition to me. I would be able to apply all the knowledge I gain during these two months for the classroom training I will get in my second year at the institute, which has already given me a lot,” she says.
Khusboo mentions the contributions of her institute not only because students were brought best SIP opportunities but they were prepared for it from Day 1 too. “My preparations date way back to June 2015 when I started the program and was told that reading newspapers, keeping abreast with the latest helps you make an impression during the interview. I began reading Economic Times regularly and started to connect conceptual knowledge to the articles,” she explains.
Soon she would start cutting out articles and putting them in different folders so that she could refer to them when needed. Says Khushboo, “I knew these articles would come handy, because the knowledge I gained through them would help me have smart conversations with recruiters. I think it’s this learning along with the experience I gained from attending academic seminars that made me interview-ready for a company like Thomas Cook.”
And now that she is getting an insight into the functioning at a corporate biggie, Khusboo feels clearer about what she wants to do with her career. “I would choose HR and Business Analytics specializations because they would give me the knowledge to recruit, select, train, evaluate and compensate the human resources. In times when data is so crucial for organizations, knowledge of essential software to make more informed decisions would be a huge plus for my career too,” she says before adding that her SIP has taken her further in the right direction.
