“The most important lesson I learnt at VJIM was that gaining knowledge about a topic is not enough. You should be able to interpret concepts conveniently and then apply them to real life situations,” says Amit Pathak, student of the B-school, fresh off the placement block. He believes this learning helped him make an impression during the interview and bag the plum position of Privilege Banker with ICICI Bank. From an unsure college student to a confident professional, he takes us through the journey that changed it all for him.
While Amit claims to remember his first day at VJIM, Hyderabad like it was yesterday; clearly the recent placement interview is fresh on his mind. So that’s where we begin as he reflects on the interview. “The process consisted of Group Discussion and Personal Interview. During the interview I was asked general questions about myself and also about my term paper presentation. If there is one thing I have learnt after going through the interview is that you need to be very clear about your answers,” he says rationally.
According to Amit, his institute focused on creating experiences for students that help them know what’s expected from them in the industry. That’s how he feels prepared for the challenges he will be faced with in his professional life. “I also think my SIP with Titas Footwear in West Bengal played a very major role and did not only help me crack the final placement interview but helped gain confidence to perform in my work sphere,” he adds.
When Amit talks about his experiences he of course mentions the innovative learning promoted by VJIM, Hyderabad for subjects like M360, Marketing management, Managerial Economics, Corporate finance management, IAPM, B2B marketing. He gets into flashback mode when he says, “Our days at the institute would begin with reading the Economic Times, which is absolutely crucial in knowing what’s going on in the business world. I realized very early into my days at the B School that I need to be proactive and must work harder.”
These are the traits that have held Amit in good stead and he plans to hold on to them throughout his professional career. As a parting shot we ask him what makes VJIM graduates stand apart from the rest and pat comes the reply, “We are hard workers, quick learners and know how to finish our work in limited time. We are well prepared to integrate into the corporate environment. VJIM has a fantastic, experienced and supportive faculty team. You have to be serious about learning and the institute lets you spread your wings.” Now that’s truly spoken from experience.
