For Victor Dhar, student of VJIM, Hyderabad, its two words that his faculty members drilled in that have become the mantra of his life. “They talked to us about the importance of Effectiveness and Efficiency. It’s something I decided to follow while I answered every question during the placement interview. I believe it helped me crack the code, so to speak,” he says with a smile. And of course, it has landed him a placement with the reputed company Deloitte as an Analyst – Knowledge Management.
However he is the first one to admit that the placement process was far from easy. Candidates were put through four rounds of online test, group discussion, Versant, which tested their verbal communication skills and personal interview. “Since each one of them was an elimination round, the pressure was very high. Since it was my first job interview, going through one round after another was a memorable experience. I learned so much about handling that kind of pressure in front of a panel of interviewers,” he says with excitement as he relives those thrilling moments.
Victor also reminds us that though being confident is the key to make an impression during the interview, you need to train rigorously to get things right. “We had been put through several mock interview sessions at VJIM and they had made me realize how even slightest of time lag in answering questions can make a huge difference. The interviewers want to know if you have the presence of mind to think on your feet,” he shares from his experience. He also talks about how he learned to push himself at his institute, and that made him excel through the interview.
Now as he stands on the cusp of an exciting professional life that awaits him, Victor believes that management education is imperative for all aspirants who want to make a career in the corporate world. “Amongst other things it teaches you about people management, which is an integral part of corporate life. I also got a firsthand experience of the corporate world thanks to my SIP at Techno India Technologies Ltd. Kolkata. It was a Finance project on feasibility study of a new hospital and I got a chance to understand the practical applications of concepts,” he explains.
Victor is quick to add that every day of his learning at the institute was geared towards being ready for the professional life ahead. “VJIM gives every student a taste of the corporate life. Right from the curriculum that is industry focused to student driven activities; every experience is meant to tell you what the industry expects of you. There are industry interface sessions, visits and other interactions, which ensure that students are industry ready. That’s why I feel prepared to take on the challenges of corporate life,” he says confidently.
Ask Victor what the typical attributes of VJIM graduates are and he mentions zeal to be proactive and dedication to achieve success. According to him, the institute believes in holistic growth, which works out well for the students. “Your two years at VJIM are going to be worth remembering all your life. If you want to have a bright future, you should start building the best platform for it at VJIM. Focus on learning but at the same time enjoy your two years here to the fullest,” is his parting advice to his juniors and future aspirants.
