With eyes sparkling with dreams and goals and hopes for the future, G. Aishwarya had nervously walked into Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management, Hyderabad. Let us take a trip with her over the life at college, her summer internship and her hopes and expectations from her B-school
1. Chartered Accountancy to the world of Management- a leap. Justified or not?
G. Aishwarya always shared a strong bond with numbers, yet her love for Management had her motivated to take the plunge from Chartered Accountancy to PGDM. When she first got into VJIM, Hyderabad, she had her apprehensions on the course delivery. However, having spent a year now on campus, Aishwarya thinks, “the decision did me well.” Primarily because she believes, the faculty member at the school are commendable sources of knowledge and inspiration.
2. How was her summer internship important?
Aishwarya describes her SIP at jobsavvy.com as the best that could come to her. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there and learnt a great deal. Unlike most SIPs, this was a paid one and helped her navigate an international job portal. She still remembers her guide who made it easy for her to do justice to her job and helped her overcome the work challenges. The two months that she had there passed by, “like a breeze.”
3. Things that the Summer Internship brought to Aishwarya’s door?
Aishwarya achieved the following from her internship with jobsavvy.com
Met new people and established a network with the professionals across various sectors
Understood the culture of an organization working in the space of Human Resources
Gained valuable experiences from both industry and the company
4. How did Aishwarya beat the blues at her internship?
a. jobsavvy.com is a start-up. It was difficult to perform the risk analysis as there were no tools or software available. Therefore, Aishwarya did a qualitative risk analysis of the jobseekers based on their resumes. It was insightful and helped her understand the dynamics of work within limited resources.
b. Aishwarya’s summer project revolved around drawing a competitive analysis for the company. The data was not available to compare as the companies were not listed with jobsavvy.com and also it was difficult to get the financial data of the competitors to begin with. However, with deeper digging, things brightened up
5. What now?
“My internship was amazingly insightful. Things I learnt at jobsavvy.com, I believe I could not have learnt with a MNC to begin with,” says Aishwarya excitedly. She further adds that given a chance she would love to pursue her job in the same place where she worked because being a finance student, she not only gained experience in the specialisation of finance but also in the specialisations of marketing where “I understood how promotions and branding help an organisation to grow.”
