Clubs & Committees

Objective:

An organization must have reasons for existing.

The objectives of a student club must be in keeping with the objectives of the institution.

  1. To assist students with similar interests and talents to become better acquainted.
  2. To provide students the opportunity to carry classroom experiences over into the co-curricular life of the campus.
  3. To give students a chance to develop social attributes.
  4. To encourage students to participate in the democratic process.
  5. To develop leadership qualities among students.

The number of clubs and committees at VJIM:

There are total 17 clubs and committees at VJIM. There are total 16 clubs and committees, completely driven by students. Clubs are for extra or co-curricular activities complement the curricular activities of the programme experience. The curricular and extracurricular activities function together to provide the total experience. It is important that a healthy balance exists in a student’s educational program. The subject-related, service, and social organizations provide opportunities for students to broaden their experiences. Students will come in closer contact with other students with similar interests. Students will have opportunities to exercise their leadership skills.

Once students become part of VJIM after registration, they are informed to be part of these clubs and committees as their co-curriculum activities. Students give their choice for clubs and committees to their mentors in the club activity sessions and become part of different clubs.

Every Student can be part of only 3 committees and clubs. As every club has a ceiling number of participants, once the number is full for that club or committee, student must choose the other club. A form is given to the students for giving their preference of the clubs and committees. The form should be submitted to the mentor and later the mentor will send these names to Students’ activity coordinator and Students’ activity coordinator sends those names to respective faculty coordinators for different clubs and committees.


Duties and responsibilities of members

All the departmental heads are responsible for their student’s club activities. The duties of the HOD’s are:

  1. Appointing the club coordinator from student members.
  2. Conducting a weekly meeting with club members to guide them and help them in proceedings.
  3. Maintaining the records of meetings and other activities of the club.
  4. Submitting report to student’s club coordinator (faculty), and IQAC.

Student’s – Roles & Responsibilities

1) Placement Committee


Objective:

The aim of this committee is to make the placement activity more students driven. Students will learn the coordination and hospitality through this committee. The placement committee is responsible for coordinating with the placement department and work in the background in bringing the companies to the campus.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Invite companies for placements and summer internships. Follow-up with companies already recruiting from us and convert new companies to join for recruitment.
  2. Coordinate the Business Conclave activity in total. Design, plan and execute completely the student driven corporate event.
  3. Take full responsibility of hospitality of organizational personnel when on campus (either directly related to placements or not).
  4. Coordinate with student community and make sure they are aware of the companies on campus.
  5. Generate and maintain a fool proof database of students, companies for further reference.
  6. Maintain a transparent communication with students, placement department, and within themselves for smooth functioning of the placement season.
  7. Work closely with the placement department.

2) Alumni Committee


Objective:

The aim of this committee is to build networking skills of students. The members of this committee are required to connect and communicate with the alumni of the institute. This committee will be coordinating with Manager-Alumni Relations and build a stronger alumni network.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Frequently update the entire alumni database.
  2. Contact and invite each and every alumnus to the annual alumni meets.
  3. Responsible and accountable for the alumni turnout.
  4. Involve in interacting with alumni in senior positions and successful entrepreneurs for drafting their success stories/journey and pass on to the PR team.
  5. Design, plan and execute alumni engagement activities
  6. Work closely with alumni cell.

3) PR Committee


Objective:

The aim of this committee is to develop the PR skills of students. The members of PR team should keep their eyes and ears open as every event/activity should be reported to a larger group both within and outside the organization. The larger responsibility of creating and sustaining the Brand VJIM lies with the members of this team

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Report every event/ activity that is conducted in VJIM—both institute and the hostel
  2. Present a story of every activity in coordination with the faculty incharge.
  3. Coordinate with the faculty incharge and the external consultant who shall get the information live.
  4. Timely reporting to ensure that the report of the event/activity goes live within 48hours of the happening.
  5. Capture best moments of campus & hostel life.

4) Hostel Committee


Objective:

The objective of this committee is to develop the sense of responsibility towards the community they live in. The hostel committee is expected to work with the hostel manager and support in the smooth functioning of VJIM hostel. The pre-requisite to be in this committee is he/she should be a hosteller.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Represent the entire hostel community and be a liaison between the faculty in-charge, hostel manager and the hostellers.
  2. Listen to the issues/problems put up the hostellers and see that they are solved in the minimum possible time.
  3. Attend the hostel committee meetings that are chaired by the faculty in-charge for the hostel.
  4. Key role in planning and executing hostel related events.
  5. Maintaining the keys of the hostel and strictly maintaining the time schedules.

5) Sports Committee


Objective:

The aim of this committee is to make students more fitness and health conscious. The sports committee is responsible to bring in the sporting spirit in the student community and bring in a culture of sports and games in the institute

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, organize and conduct sports and games to the students
  2. Identify the strong teams to represent the institute in various inter-collegiate events.
  3. Create awareness about the different sport activities.

Required competencies:

  • Must be a player at Dist. Level and above.
  • Organizing skills
  • Team player

6) Cultural Committee


Objective:

With students from diverse cultures of multi-cultural country, the cultural club brings together the different art forms and the students with experience in these areas. The cultural committee shall work towards creating a group of music, dance, sketching & painting, etc. The flagship event of VJIM, Chrysalis annual fest is planned and organized by this committee.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and execute different cultural activities.
  2. The flagship event of VJIM, Chrysalis annual fest is planned and organized by this committee.
  3. Plan and create a band that represents VJIM at different opportunities in and out of the institute.
  4. Take the ownership to showcase talent of VJIM students in different extra-curricular events that are conducted in the institute.

7) Academic Clubs: (Marketing Club, Finance Club, HR Club, Operations Club, Analytics Club)


Objective:

The academic clubs are spaces that let the members explore the functional area that they want to make a career in through a lot of activities. The aim of these clubs is to develop more functional competency by conducting regular exercise like quiz, newspaper analysis, field trips, seminars etc.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, design and execute different activities that shall engage the members of the club in peer-learning facilitated by the faculty in-charge.
  2. Work closely with the faculty in-charge.
  3. Collect information related to the functional area that can benefit the members of the club and conduct discussions to facilitate learning.
  4. Arranging institutional seminars in their functional area with faculty coordinator.

Activities:

  • Group discussions
  • Domain specific ET analysis
  • Domain specific quiz and debate competitions
  • Seminars

Required Competencies:

  • Passion towards the academic area.

8) Debate Club


Objective:

A club of the sharpest minds on the most important topics, the debate club brings together the members who can participate and bring in the best arguments and let the audience decide which is the most persuasive.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, organize and execute perspective debate activities amongst the members of the club.
  2. Keep track of debating opportunities in and out of the institute and encourage the members of the club to participate.
  3. Identify the best debaters from the members to represent the institute in debating opportunities in and out of the institute.

Activities:

  • Weekly debate sessions
  • Annual VJIM All India debate competition
  • Institute wide debate competition.

9) Quiz Club


Objective:

The quiz club (q-club) is a unique and exciting platform which motivates, inspires, encourages and rewards members in their quest for knowledge. The Q-club attracts knowledge sharing, connecting the dots etc. so as to participate in quizzing like never before. This club develops the GK and updating the current information about different areas.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct knowledge sharing sessions that shall equip quizzers with better information.
  2. Plan, organize and execute small quizzes for members to participate and test themselves.
  3. Identify and select quizzers who can represent in the various quizzing competitions in and out of the institute.

Activities:

  • Weekly quizzes
  • Annual VJIM all India Business quiz competition
  • Institute wide quiz competition

10) Social Outreach Club


Objective:

To instill a sense of service orientation in the students, Vidyasagar-the social outreach club works towards contributing back to the society.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Discuss and come up with activities that the institute can conduct or participate in which can create a social impact.
  2. Co-ordinate with the faculty in-charge to plan, organize and execute the club activities
  3. Promote the activities in a way to ensure maximum participation.

Activities:

  • Blood donation camps
  • Plantation drives
  • Awareness campaigns
  • Each One Teach One

11) Grievance Cell


Objective:

The cell provides a mechanism to the students for redressal of their grievances with regard to their complaints on academic and non-academic matters, related to assessment, conduct of examinations etc.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. To develop a responsive and accountable attitude among all the students in order to maintain a harmonious educational atmosphere in the Institute.
  2. Upholding the dignity of the institute by ensuring strife free atmosphere in the institute through promoting cordial relationship between everyone at VJIM.
  3. To participate in the redressal meetings and contribute in decision making.

12) Book club


Objective:

This club brings together a group of people who meet to discuss book (s) that they have read and express their opinions, likes and dislikes.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Read books and participate in discussions.
  2. Suggest a book and reason your suggestion.
  3. Bring together books of different variety and help the members make the right choice of books to read.
  4. Get a different perspective on the book that you already read.

Competencies Required:

  • Read books with love.

13) Toast Masters Club


Objective:

Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. It has a very unique model and has around 350,000 memberships across 140 countries.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending the club. So, they should take the meetings seriously.
  2. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program. Members should earnestly come forward to perform all these activities.
  3. The club members should meet once every week or fortnight. VJIM Club meets every fortnight on 1st& 3rd Saturdays
  4. The members should attend all the meetings and be on time for the same.
